One Picture Tells a Story (A Slow Start)

I always feel that one picture says more if you focus on it, if you really look. Look at the colours, the details, and the background. Look at the beauty that one picture is saying to you. It helps you make a memory; it helps write a story for how the picture will be made.

I remember one morning getting up early (don’t worry not 3am again) walking out the front door and taking in the morning air. The cool air on my warm cheeks, the sun just beginning to rise above the houses and shine through the trees. Birds chirping in the trees and the day just beginning.

After around half an hour and a few trees, sun shots and pathways later I found a picture that I had never found before. Something that would stand out, that would be different and that would hopefully be an amazing photo. A snail just moving along the path in front of me, I knelt down and held my camera still, watching the snail move ever so slowly, the gravel turning underneath him, I smiled as I watched in awe how the tiny yet delicate animal made his way on his morning walk. A beautiful shell, a smooth coat and a soft looking texture, yet able to move in a gentle motion from the tip of his tail to the front of his antenna. A few photos later and as I carried on with my walk, I wondered how I would use this photo, how I would make people see the beauty I saw (because let’s face it, not everyone likes snails and not everyone sees them as I see this photo – but that’s ok).

Finishing the walk and looking at the photo in all its glory I still saw it as a beautiful picture, it may not have a big background, it may not have a lot of colour, but it is an animal that is so perfectly proportioned and so quiet you wouldn’t notice it if you didn’t try to look for them. But I was lucky enough to capture one on my morning walk.

I will admit making people see a photo as I do is a challenge at times, but a challenge that I enjoy. Even if this photo isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I ask you to just look.... look at the picture for a few minutes. Look at the details, the colours, the shell, the tiny animal that so many of us dismiss, the tiny animal that yes at times can be annoying and known for ruining all of your veggies, but all I ask, is just look!
