My Inspiration
Hello everyone, hope you are all keeping well and have had a great year so far. I have had a busy month with cake orders, admin days and some craft fairs which went very well.
I thought that I would take this blog post to mention my inspiration (yes, I know that sounds cheesy, but stay with me)! I get asked a lot about my cakes, my photos, where my photos are taken and what kind of camera equipment, I use but believe it or not some people have asked about my inspiration, who inspires me, and when I really thought about who inspires me the most, who has always been there and encouraged me to do what I love. The answer is my mum.
My mum is amazing, she has always encouraged me to do what I love, follow my heart, and keep on smiling and still to this day I am her Little Miss Sunshine. She has supported me to get my business going as well as the rest of my family, but my mum has helped me in more ways than she will ever know and for that I am very grateful.
When I was little, I remember getting my little kitchen step, dragging it across the kitchen floor, placing it next to my mum, hopping on to it and watching her bake, cook and mix up all sorts of lovely food. I enjoyed seeing her chopping veg, baking a cake and letting me have little taste tests throughout – which I still do now. Everytime she is baking or cooking dinner and especially when she cooks chicken, I will be there in a flash to taste test. Leaning over the worktop on my elbows, head in hand, cheekily smiling at her as she cuts the meat up, she will slowly slide a little chunk of food over, no matter what it is and before she even looks at me, it's gone. The food and treats she has always made and continues to make are so moreish, so delicious, full of flavour, colour and the smells are just unbelievable.
She is the one who taught me to cook, she taught me to bake, I used to have my little mixing bowl and apron on, ready to go and we used to make Victoria sponges together, we used to make banana bread and much more. I always watched carefully how to weigh ingredients, how to cream the butter and sugar before adding other ingredients, how to make buttercream and she even taught me how to make a piping bag out of paper (which is something that I don’t think is really taught now), she literally has taught me everything that I know today.
So, mum, this blog is for you. I want to thank you for everything that you (and dad) have done for me and continue to do for me. I want to thank you for letting me be your little co-chef and your little taste tester. Thank you for teaching me, helping me with my craft fairs, letting me cook with you, letting me bake with you and encouraging me to follow my dreams and thank you for being my amazing mum and letting me have these wonderful memories years later.
Thank you!
